DISEASE VARIANTS

The myeloproliferative disorders are a group of conditions closely related to leukaemia in which there is excess production of one or more type of blood cell in the bone marrow. There are three main types called essential thrombocythaemia, polycythaemia vera and myelofibrosis. Some doctors include chronic myeloid leukaemia within this category but it is more usual to treat this as a separate disorder. For detailed information on the conditions, please use the links above.
